“Why We Need Culturally Competent Death Doulas” – Online – Thursday, February 1, 2024 (2 pm – 3:30 pm)
$35.00
Description: This program will provide the history of mistreatment regarding marginalized communities and healthcare providers. We will also delve into how death doulas can serve these communities with empathy and awareness.
Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
∙ Understand the definition of culturally competent death doulas.
∙ Recognize the historical mistreatment of marginalized communities, especially the BIPOC community, by healthcare providers.
∙ Recognize and understand how inequality from birth affects death.
∙ Learn about other resources for older adults from marginalized communities.
∙ Recognize the ways that death doulas, care teams, and loved ones use empathy and awareness to serve these communities at the end of life.
The link will be sent before the session begins. This may be available for 1.5 CEUs through the Continuing Education Institute of Illinois. I’d also welcome caregivers, patients, and curious participants. Please join us! Each session also includes an “Ask a Doula” Q&A at the end where I’ll answer all your questions.
