Description: This program will provide information about advance directives. We will examine how these directives sometimes involve living will, power of attorney, and health care instructions. We will also cover ways to discuss these directives with loved ones.

Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:

∙ Understand the advance directives, power of attorney for health care, living wills, and other advance care planning.

∙ Recognize the importance of making plans, writing them down, and sharing them with others (tender talks.)

∙ Identify differences between tender talks both before and after a diagnosis.

∙ Understand the dos and don’ts for loved ones during tender talks.

∙ Recognize the ways that death doulas, care teams, and loved ones use advance directives to help support people at the end of life when they’re not able to advocate for themselves.

The link will be emailed to you before the session. This is available for 1.5 CEUs through the Continuing Education Institute of Illinois. I’d also welcome caregivers, patients, and curious participants. Please join us! Each session also includes an “Ask a Doula” Q&A at the end where I’ll answer all your questions.
