“Basic Sign Language for Older Adults” – Online – Tuesday, November 14, 2023 (11:30 am – 1 pm central time)

Description: This program will provide basic signs in American Sign Language for older adults. We will examine how these might make it easier to live and communicate with loved ones.

Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:

∙ Understand the ABCs of ASL (fingerspelling) and number signs (1-20.)

∙ Recognize the importance of hands, facial expressions, and body movements in American Sign Language.

∙ Recognize, demonstrate, and understand 16 common signs for older adults.

∙ Learn about other resources for older adults who want to learn ASL.

∙ Recognize the ways that death doulas, care teams, and loved ones use American Sign Language to help older adults communicate when or if they lose their hearing.
